I have more than 28 years experience as a counsellor working with many issues including relationship problems, eating disorders, work related issues, stress, anxiety, depression, self esteem and acquired hearing loss. In 2007 BACP gave me recognition as a Senior Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor of Individuals.
Although my practice is not confined to any one of these areas, I do have a special interest in eating disorders and hearing loss reflecting more than thirty five years experience.
I strive to walk in the world of my clients helping them to explore and identify areas in which they may choose to make changes. I hope that I am sufficiently sensitive, empathic and honest to enable a safe environment within which a strong relationship can develop.
How to begin?
We can start by meeting for 15 mins (for no charge), or we can book a one hour assessment session, to give us both a chance to see how we work together. Following that we can discuss whether we will contract to continue to work together, frequency, fee and other details.
Although my practice is based in Tideswell (Derbyshire), I also offer sessions by Zoom or Skype enabling flexability and support for those who do not have easy access to my practice. My flexible diary includes appointment times during day and evening.
Then when we have a contract….
From then on we monitor the process making changes to our agreement when appropriate. I run a flexible diary which includes appointment times during the day and evening and at the end of each session we find a mutually acceptable time for the next. In this way, the service I offer can be tailored to fit your lifestyle. Usually clients pay my fee at the end of each session. Most people pay by bank transfer now and that is my preference, although cash is fine. Although I have a standard sessional fee, it is negotiable in certain cases.
My philosophy and experience
I gained recognition by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as a Senior Accredited Counsellor in 2007 by virtue of my experience and training, which includes a Diploma and Degree in Person-Centred Counselling awarded by the Metanoia Institute and Middlesex University. I abide and work by the BACP Code of Ethics and Ethical Framework.
My philosophy and counselling is based on the Person-Centred Approach, which is non-interpretive and non-directive, but I am open to and interested in other approaches and philosophies too. In particular I have undertaken training focusing on Cognitive Behavioural Approach, Psychodynamic Approach and Art Therapy and also attended workshops and read widely on other approaches and ideas all of which inform my practice.
